“May we all arrive together!” (RB 72, 12)
Monastic community is not “a nest”, but it is a way with its oasis and also its trials, where everybody is a guard of his or her sisters and brothers, not because we like them more than others, but because God has given them to us as companions on our way.
Like Aaron and Hour supported the hands of Moses (cf. Ex 17:8-16), as he was praying to God, the same happens also in our lives : Everyone can remember himself such moments, where he has been supported by a sister or a brother or where a brother or sister has finished the work which he was unable to do, or has covered what was not so good, with the coat of mercy...: “How good, how delightful it is for all to live together like brothers” (Psalm 133:1).
Our live in the community begins for always on the day of our profession. When the document with life-long vows is put on the altar, the community has a new brother or a new sister. They are responsible and helping each other in the way. Saint Benedict said : “May Christ brings us all together to the everlasting life.”
“We must arrive all together” : Everyone has not to search only for his happiness, but everyone has to be a good shepherd to his sister and brother. I can’t arrive alone to my Lord, but only together with my brothers and sisters!
