In the beginning of monasticism monks chose to live in silence and solitude for searching for God. Saint Benedict said: “They live and work in the enclosure of the monastery” (RB 4). That does not mean that the abbey and the community are closed to the world. Many people are knocking at the door, hoping to hear a word of consolation, a word of life.
The Abbey of Saint Lioba is also a place of unity, where different Christian confessions and different religions can meet, it is also a peace for all the people, who visit the monastery. But the monks and nuns know, that they can bring the love and the light of Christ only if they are also faithful to their life of silence and solitude in order to live in the presence of God.
